Winter

Winter Law is the law of the realm of the Winter Court. Mentioned in Cold Days.

DescriptionEdit

The Winter Law is an emanation of Mab.[1]

Winter Law on prisonersEdit

The Winter Law on Prisoners is similar to Laws of hospitality

Accepted prisoner status by a Faerie, under Winter Law, implies that the prisoner cannot try to escape or resist, while his captor must care for his needs, cannot mistreat him, or have him betray previous covenants - he is a guest by law, though for many aspects he is really a vassal for the captor to do with, within limits, as the captor pleases. The prisoner's liege may ransom him, if he wants him back.[1]

In the seriesEdit

Cold DaysEdit

Main article: Cold Days

In Cold Days, when Captain Hook tried to escape, Toot-Toot stopped her and invoked Winter Law as a prisoner when it looked like Toot would beat her. That essentially made Hook a vassal to Harry.

When Dresden attempted to defy Winter Law, the Winter Knight's Mantle went away and he lost the use of his legs and felt great pain. His worst fears came true and he realized that he had better learn Winter Law fast. The Mantle came back and his health was restored. Harry tried to ask Toot how he could learn Winter Law and Toot was perplexed by the question. Toot said: "You don't learn it, you know it. Everyone knows it."[1]
