  • Ursuul, I need your technical expertise again.

It appears that TOC has a relatively small, fixed width, rather than adapting to the length of the various titles therein. It looks like it is limited to DF wiki. Harry Dresden vs. Potter]. Any idea why?

    THX.

  • I'm not completely sure that Winter Ice is the right term for it. Throughout Cold Days, it seems to be called simply "Winter". Same might apply to Summer Fire; I'll know when I'll be going through the relevant novels.

    • I backed it up with several references from disparate books; earlier on my wall some people questioned its veracity, & I supplied them with refs & quotes. I’ll get a link.

    • LOL. That was me, between an username and the next.

Well, you may have noticed I'm working on Cold Days, where Winter Ice is not explicitly named; "Winter" seems to encompass a philosophical construct, a physical entity, a sense of purpose and power; that's probably why I'm yet ungrounded about the terms. I'll probably get to Summer Knight, Proven Guilty and Skin Game, soon as CD is over. Meanwhile, I'm keeping the link - novels are slow going.

Thank you, as usual, very much.

  • ... to change the wiki's font? I don't mind, but I'd appreciate if the font of the text editor got back to the previous size: as it is it's too small to be read comfortably, particularly for long sessions.

    Thanks!

    • I did not in fact, but I can check the Technical Update Blogs on CC to see if Fandom did. If it bothers you, I think I can increase the size with CSS real quick.

    • No need; the fault is on my side - I've somehow changed the settings of my browser so that it reduces font size by 10%.

Sorry to have bothered you; your being the programmer of this wiki makes me inquiring even for such unrelated things. :)

    • Not a problem! Always happy to be useful here, since I can’t edit content as much as I would like. I’m still drafting some test CSS on home Wiki for the compartmentalization, but soon you should start seeing changes.

    • Thanks! I'm looking forward to it.

  • And this is perhaps the least pleasant side of editing this wiki - I can understand that User:Cape And Mask does not feel like editing here any longer. He could, though, if he keeps the future of the series in his blogs or in the forum.

But he has a point when he says that something should be added to the main page; it has to be polished, though.

I had in mind something like this:

"Interest in new books and novels in the Dresden Files is strong and gets stronger as time passes on; it is unfortunate that two years have passed since the release of Skin Game with no clear indication about what will be published in the future, and when it will be published.

In order to provide strong and reliable information to readers, we need strong external support, such as at least one publicly available sample chapter of the next novel on Jim Butcher's website or the release of its cover page and a publication date, without which it will not be possible to retain a mainspace page for it.

If such information cannot be provided, editors are welcome to mention anything of interest in their userspace blogs or in forum threads.

    Thank you, the admins."

    What do you think?

    • Ah, right hand side is perfect for such announcements; people _have_ a tendency to look right when landing on a printed page, whether on paper or screen.

I meant something like this. I'll keep it in my userspace for the moment. It's not suitable for mainspace; I'll probably make a blog out of it. It's also high-maintenance, particularly if you want to include youtube clips.

It's pretty clear where C&M has taken his ideas: the first goodreads link includes "Peace Talks", "Mirror, Mirror", and "Brief Cases", which he felt should be shared here. But, even though "Peace Talks" seems to have an ISBN number, it's slim pickings.

  • Hi,

I tried to add forthcoming books (can referance the kickstarter game and video interviews) and saw it was taken down, wondering if there was any issue with that and adding things.

  • Say, Ursuul,

that you're aware, who's mother of Titania? Mother Winter or Mother Summer? In the first case, Titania and Mab are full sisters, in the second they're completely unrelated; there's to modify the relative pages accordingly.

    Thanks!

  • Never seen a bigger mismatch between title and content than in Evocation. Evocation is the term for summoning spirits, but I can't really start a page about summoning without this page out of the way. "Battle magic" seems good enough to me, but I'd like to hear a second opinion before moving it.

    Thanks!

  • I am not in a situation to properly check on the matter, but a quick read of the named demons and scions seems to indicate that User:Dragonlover553 could be right - not all demons are from the Nevernever. At least there's no mention of it on the pages I've checked; not worth that much, but perhaps indicative.

We might want to change the lede to reflect that.

  • Congratulations, councilor!

As for this, I wonder. Some old interactions with editors still rankle.

    • Seems to be working! :)

I'll go through it deeper tomorrow: it's almost midnight here, and I'm not willing to go through Java (Visualbasic, it's not) at this hour of the night.

      Thanks!

  • ... that Locations needs to be split in in-universe places and real-world locations. Any suggestions on how to name the two categories that is not a variation of "Dresden Files" and "Real World"?

    As usual my thanks!
