Herbert Orson Caine is a mugger, rapist, and extortionist. He first appears in the short story Heorot and again in Last Call. He brews a mead called "Caine's Kickass".

BiographyEdit

Caine is in a brewing competition at Wrigley field along with Roger Braddock and Mac McAnally. Caine confronts Roger of stealing his keg of mead in order to win the competition as he is talking with Harry. Caine is about to start a fight, but he backs down when he realizes that there is a cop nearby. Roger explains that Caine once made a move on Roger's wife, Elizabeth Braddock, and that she embarrassed him. Caine has been holding a grudge ever since. Later, Caine, who was still angry at Harry, jumps him in an alley along with two friends. Harry fend them off using his staff and with a little help from his dog Mouse.

Caine also shows up in the short story Last Call as a possible suspect for messing with Mac's beer. Murphy and Harry go to Caine's apartment and he runs. Harry and Murphy quickly catch him. Harry threatens to kill Caine with magic in a melodramatic way. Caine cracks quickly giving them a lead to Bert Decker who sold him the blood stone.
